Day 1

Ok so I must admit that on my first run I was feeling the full effect of gravity with every step! I discovered that I haven't actually run on pavement in 10 years! That's right....ten! How crazy is that!?! So I've done some cardio on the elliptical and occasionally on a treadmill but I forgot what the pavement felt like. Youch!

As I was plodding along (after working my third night shift in a row and directly after having breakfast with my family, mind you-I know..real smart, right?) I thought "real great idea. Tell people you're starting a running program, invite them to join in and then start a blog! Awesome! What better way to experience public humiliation than via Blog!" I was convinced about ten minutes into this thing that I had made a mistake and that as soon as I walked in the door I was going to blog you all my running resignation! So obviously I got over that urge and am currently still intending to follow the plan...although there are only two days left in the week and I still have to do two more days this week....someone hand me a calculator!

I talked wiht a few people starting the program this week via text and for fun asked them to text me their one word summary after their first run. The answers were: "Bummer" and "Bullshit". Well folks...there you have it...honesty! I invite all of you to post your one word summary here also.

Alright...well best of luck to everyone as we near the end of week 1. I'll let you know how things go after run #2!

Almost Ready to Begin!

I was just sitting at work, noticing that it is now officially February 28th, which means that this adventure technically starts tomorrow! So although it is not quite 2 a.m. I am getting excited...and a bit nervous that setting up this blog and having others join with me on this journey means I actually will have people to be accountable to! Ugh. I mean...Yay! :-) I am excited that I will have more accountability to other pe0ple and also hopefully a deadline! Deadlines...ah...the necessary evil. They are what make me break down and scrub my floor and vaccuum the stairs before company comes over. If it weren't for some of you those two tasks might never occur!

So suffice it to say that I have mixed feelings about starting this. It sounded like such a good idea to start on March 1st when it was oh...say...February 1st but now that March 1st is tomorrow I'm feeling a bit concerned. I don't know if I even can run. I mean, really! When is that last time that I really, truly, honest to goodness ran. Well, other than yesterday when Landon was running through the house with a Sharpie! Other than that I cannot recall the last time I actually ran. I hope this is the last time I will be able to say that!

To get started you can go to www.coolrunning.com and print out the "Couch to 5k running plan". It gives detailed directions on how to accomplish the 5k run. The schedule is outlined and easy to follow. Having access to a stopwatch or an app for your i-phone or Droid that has a stopwatch on it is very helpful to do this correctly. Please post on this blog anytime you have any words of encouragement, advice or interesting experiences. If I can figure out how to do it I will turn this into a group blog but this is my first time ever "blogging" so excuse me if I don't have a clue what to do!

Ok, so everyone put on your running shoes, grab your printout of the Couch Potato to 5K running plan and let's go! We are aiming for a 5K goal in early May at the Flatirons Crossing event "Flat Out 5k". The registration is $15 and includes...get this....beer and french fries after the race. Strange but oddly enticing! Anyway, I hope this journey will be as exciting and challening for you as I'm sure it will be for me! Let's get started!
